Alternity

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

What is this play about?

Due to Tom Stoppards idea of taking two minor characters of the Tragedy Hamlet by William Shakespeare and turning them into the protagonists of his story we get to dive into a world of randomness and absurdity.

Within this strange play I got to experience very interesting settings within theatrical performances and scenes. Because of my knowledge and interest in fashion design and art, the art within this production caught my attention. This play to me was all about set ups, costumes and poetry.

The costumes are wonderfully tailored with extravagant accessories and detail. With the great sense of display the director really captures the scenes and the color palette of the costumes in a unity and creates artwork within the film. The absurdity of the story gives the entire spiel an avant-garde look and feel. It is hard to explain what this play brings to my mind but I could see myself creating an entire fashion line with the inspiring shots and mood boards it portrays to me. I would take on the color palette, some design elements of the existing garments and then turn them into a modernized collection by changing the garment forms and incorporating one or two seasonal colors of the 21st century.

As a conclusion I would say, to me this play is about art and inspiration to whatever the viewer would like to interpret into the scenes.

  1. I liked how observant you are of this play. You seemed to pay attention to important details. I enjoyed the fact you explained how artistic this play was and it was about the characters expressing themselves. When I watched it, I found it was about love and hatred. It is interesting to see another peer's perspective. I also found your way of editing the piece to be very interesting as well.
